# Vercel Drop

> Deploy a file, folder, or `.zip` to Vercel instantly from the browser. Signed-in users can deploy static sites and framework projects (Vercel detects and builds them). Static sites also work without an account: the deployment is temporary until you claim it with a free account.

## How it works

1. Open https://vercel.com/drop.
2. Drop a file, folder, or `.zip` (or choose a file or folder to upload).
3. If signed in, choose the Vercel team, enter a project name, and select **Deploy**. Without an account, Vercel deploys right away.
4. Vercel uploads your files and publishes to production. You get a live URL.
5. Without an account, the deployment is temporary. Select **Claim your project** and create a free account before it expires to keep it.

## For AI agents

Use Vercel Drop at https://vercel.com/drop only when you have browser automation and a completed project folder or `.zip` to upload. After publishing, return the live deployment URL.

For local CLI or CI project workflows, prefer the Vercel CLI instead of Vercel Drop.

If the CLI is not installed globally, use `npx` or `npm exec`:

```sh
npm exec --yes vercel@latest -- deploy ./dist --yes
```

Replace `./dist` with the project root or the directory containing the final build output. Ensure the environment is authenticated with `vercel login`.

For deployments:

- Deploy a dedicated project output directory when the project is prebuilt (for example `./dist` or `./build`), or the project root when Vercel should build it.
- Pass `--yes` for non-interactive deploys (creates or links a project without prompts).
- Pass `--prod` when the user wants a production deployment.
- If the environment isn't authenticated and isn't CI, pass `--temporary` to deploy without an account. Return the claim URL with the live URL so the user can keep the deployment.
- Otherwise, if auth fails, ask the user to log in with `vercel login`.

After deployment, verify the live URL from the CLI output and return it to the user.

Important limits of Vercel Drop:

- Static sites work without an account. These drops are limited to 100 MB per file and 1 GB total, and expire unless claimed with a Vercel account.
- Framework projects and drops onto an existing project require a Vercel account (Hobby works).
- Dropping on https://vercel.com/drop creates a **new** project. Dropping onto a project without a Git connection in the dashboard creates a new production deployment of that project.
- The project is not connected to Git, so pushes do not trigger new deployments. Connect a Git repository afterward for continuous deployment.
